This 2021 Chateau Gazin is giving major moody aesthetic, pouring a 100% Merlot vibe check straight from the clay-gravel plateau of Pomerol. Because 2021 was a notoriously cooler vintage, this wine isn't a basic, jammy fruit bomb; it’s snatching waists with a slender, high-toned structure and zippy mineral energy. On the nose, it's serving dark academia—think fresh cherries and dark plums layered with crushed violets, tobacco leaf, and a hit of graphite. The tannins are definitely grippy and bring a salty, seaweed-tinged tang to the finish that has critics fully divided. Some are totally obsessed with its fresh, savory elegance, while others think the astringency is doing way too much.
