Clos Mogador Gratallops 2020 is a benchmark Priorat "Vi de Vila" red that distinctly reflects the region's steep, llicorella (slate) soils. Crafted by pioneer René Barbier, the vintage blends 45% Garnacha, 29% Cariñena, 16% Syrah, and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, and notably shifted its maturation process to age exclusively in 2,000-liter French oak foudres rather than smaller barriques to soften the wood impact and preserve freshness. Despite a challenging, rain-heavy growing season that demanded rigorous fruit selection, this expression delivers a massive yet balanced profile. It opens with intense aromatics of black cherry, wild Mediterranean herbs, and blood orange, leading into a dense, fleshy palate characterized by sculpted, velvety tannins, underlying graphite minerality, and a long, spiced finish.
