Heinrich Muskat Freyheit 2021 Austrian Orange Wine

The Heinrich Muskat Freyheit 2021 from Austria's Burgenland is a biodynamic, skin-contact orange wine serving major main character energy straight out of its iconic clay bottle. Blending roughly 86% Muskat Ottonel for loud aromatics with 14% Pinot Blanc for texture, this unfiltered juice spent 15 days on the skins and matured in amphorae for pure, zero-intervention realness. On the nose, it’s giving massive floral hits of jasmine and elderflower, backed by kumquat, peach, and a low-key spicy vibe of sage and coriander, while the palate slaps with a taut tannic grip, zesty acidity, and a salty, mineral finish that leaves absolutely no crumbs. The risk of doing this as a standard white wine pour is chilling it too much, which will mute the aromatics and make those skin-contact tannins feel aggressively bitter; I suggest changing it to a cellar temperature serve around 12°C and giving the bottle a gentle flip before opening to integrate the lees and wake up the texture.
